the more genteel and, yes, european among us are languishing in these long days in heady holiday mode: no work, all sun. that’s what they call “la dolce vita,” but what we stateside call “unfair”; however, we carry on with our faithful duties and activities, albeit with less urgency and clothing, and there is beaucoup to do.

but let’s not overdo it: september is approaching with its promise of fashion weeks, gourd-scented delights and a less pressing need for sunglasses (we are partial to these and these this summer. what can we say, we are feeling a little loewe right now). And so, behold: our leisurely list of sensory stimuli that have activated our august antennae. get fixated on the following with us.

yes, there is art; yes, there is fashion. but the guaranteed glory of an optical orgasm (at least in august) is down to that seasonal sprout that never fails to impress: the dahlia. while the staid set says to take a moment to smell the roses, we suggest taking a moment to stare at these dinner plate darlings. our faves? an utter contrast to these bright days, we are attracted to the dark. it’s the drama for us. black narcissus, arabian night and dark spirit. bouquet, you stay.
