Gallery FUMI at Design Miami in LA
things are heating up, literally, figuratively, and so many ways to play. Fall for something fresh, or see an old love through new eyes. Because, bright, shiny, and new is not always the name of the game.
Either way, it’s time to indulge in a little May Madness. Read on.

EVENTS
US
Frieze New York 2024 might be in your rear view mirror but lots of good things to muse over. One thing on radar (seeing as we’re just a little into the outdoors at the moment) is all the great outdoor art. And since it’s finally warming up in NYC…
NYCxDesign 2024 16–23 May. In our opinion, NY Design Week has never been quite as thrilling as those in Milan, London, Miami and the others. But it’s coming along, again courtesy (as is the case of the other Design Weeks) of a booming gallery and indie design scene. Always excited to see Lindsey Adelman; ceramic lighting at Dumais Made; a new hardware collection by Monica Khemsurov of Sight Unseen fame. Also a shout out to our good friends at AssemblyLine who’ll be rocking their latest collections (and make sure to check out the clé installations there too.
Design Miami in LA. Taking its inaugural bow (and we notice, quite cheekily on at the same time as NYxDesign in quite the show of bravura) we’re very excited to see this new energy, and what LA will bring to the party. While you’re there, make an appointment to see some spectacular wallpaper at the new deGournay showroom and oh yeah, some even more spectacular tile (OK, OK we’re a little biased.) It’s all in the mix, of course.

Jenny Holzer, Light Line at the Guggenheim

LONDON
London Craft Week 2024 13–19 May, London, UK. The UK craft scene has deep roots, greater respect, (somewhat) better funding than that in the US… and as a result, a thriving, cutting edge craft scene. Reconsider craft here. In particular (and not just because we love the name) we’re excited to see Beyond Clay: A Contemporary Craft Showcase.
Then stick around for Clerkenwell Design Week from May 21–23, where you can see even more provocative work.
Enzo Mari at the Design Museum now through 8 September. The definitive retrospective of this designer/artist/thinker is one of that spectacular pack of multi-hyphenate Italian mid-century reactives whose works included everything from graphic design and calendars to furniture to children’s toys.
Yinka Shonabare is a master of color, intellect, and storyteller with a social conscience par excellence. His first museum show in 20 years shows him at the top of his form. At the Serpentine through September 1.

We do adore our art and design books. Even though, maybe, we could actually look at them more? Even read them? Here’s what’s on our wish lists for the month.

Aperol Spritz: our favorite summer beverage
TASTE
Aperol Spritz had a moment, and let’s face it: that moment is eternally, effervescently Amalfi for us. But you can’t beckon summer without a bubble or two. Luckily, the spritz itself endures, from Lillet to Limoncello.
PS. If you want a taste but don’t want to be seen quaffing a cocktail (what?) an Aperol Spritz Popsicle may be just the ticket.
Liberty’s Fragrance Lounge
SMELL
Louis Vuitton is taking you around the world this summer, with its Perfume Atlas, celebrating the poetic and scientific universes of perfumery. At the other end of the spectrum, and just in time for Mother’s Day, there’s this from the always fascinating Akro….
We’re also quite keen to check out Liberty’s Fragrance Lounge, embracing both the niche and the not so.
